Florida Senate - 2017 (NP) SR 1818 By Senator Bean 4-01922-17 20171818__ 1 Senate Resolution 2 A resolution recognizing April 6, 2017, as “National 3 Multiple Sclerosis Society Florida State Action Day at 4 the Capitol” and encouraging efforts to inform the 5 residents of this state about multiple sclerosis. 6 7 WHEREAS, multiple sclerosis (MS) is a neurological disease 8 of the central nervous system that affects 2.3 million people 9 worldwide, and 10 WHEREAS, the National Multiple Sclerosis Society reports 11 that most people with multiple sclerosis are diagnosed between 12 the ages of 20 and 50 years; that the effects, progression, 13 severity, and specific symptoms are unpredictable and cannot be 14 foreseen; and that the cause of and cure for this often 15 debilitating disease remain unknown, and 16 WHEREAS, the National Multiple Sclerosis Society is 17 committed to a world free of MS by heightening public knowledge 18 of the disease, and 19 WHEREAS, since 1946, the National Multiple Sclerosis 20 Society has been a driving force of MS research, relentlessly 21 pursuing prevention, treatment, and a cure, and more than $900 22 million has been invested in groundbreaking research, and 23 WHEREAS, funds raised by the National Multiple Sclerosis 24 Society for research, which total $50.2 million annually 25 worldwide, fuel the efforts of nearly 380 research projects at 26 the best medical centers, universities, and other institutions 27 throughout the United States and abroad, and 28 WHEREAS, discovering the cause, finding a cure, and 29 preventing persons in future generations from being diagnosed 30 with MS is an important mission that all Americans should 31 support, and 32 WHEREAS, the Florida Senate recognizes the importance of 33 finding the cause of and cure for MS and expresses its support 34 and appreciation for the endeavors of the National Multiple 35 Sclerosis Society to ensure a future free of multiple sclerosis, 36 NOW, THEREFORE, 37 38 Be It Resolved by the Senate of the State of Florida: 39 40 That April 6, 2017, is recognized as “National Multiple 41 Sclerosis Society Florida State Action Day at the Capitol” and 42 that efforts to inform the residents of this state about 43 multiple sclerosis are encouraged. 44 BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that a copy of this resolution, with 45 the Seal of the Senate affixed, be presented to the National 46 Multiple Sclerosis Society as a tangible token of the sentiments 47 of the Florida Senate.
