    1                          Senate Resolution                        
    2         A resolution designating April 3-7, 2017, as “Boys and
    3         Girls Club Week” in Florida.
    4  
    5         WHEREAS, every day more than a million youth in Florida
    6  leave school with no place to go to, leaving these youth
    7  unsupervised, unguided, and unsafe, and
    8         WHEREAS, the Florida Alliance of Boys and Girls Clubs
    9  serves more than 161,000 young people at 253 club facilities in
   10  Florida, and
   11         WHEREAS, the Boys and Girls Clubs have helped strengthen
   12  the community by providing a safe, positive, constructive place
   13  for youth, and
   14         WHEREAS, the Boys and Girls Clubs offer young people a wide
   15  variety of educational, recreational, cultural, and social
   16  programs, and
   17         WHEREAS, the Boys and Girls Clubs enrich the lives of the
   18  youth of this state and foster opportunities for young people
   19  from low-income and moderate-income families, and
   20         WHEREAS, the Boys and Girls Clubs offer after-school and
   21  summer enrichment programs for boys and girls, and, while the
   22  young people they serve face many obstacles, the Boys and Girls
   23  Clubs are a constant positive influence in their lives, and
   24         WHEREAS, while 24 percent of youth in Florida do not
   25  graduate from high school, 95 percent of teenage members of the
   26  Boys and Girls Clubs expect to graduate from high school, with
   27  75 percent expecting to complete some form of postsecondary
   28  education, and
   29         WHEREAS, the Boys and Girls Clubs have a long history of
   30  providing after-school educational programs that launch young
   31  people on the path to success, and
   32         WHEREAS, the Senate has determined that an important public
   33  purpose exists for appropriating public funds to Florida's Boys
   34  and Girls Clubs, including, but not limited to, funds for the
   35  provision of educational, recreational, cultural, after-school,
   36  summer enrichment, and social programs for young people from
   37  low-income and moderate-income families in Florida, and
   38         WHEREAS, the Florida Alliance of Boys and Girls Clubs
   39  celebrates National Boys and Girls Club Week along with more
   40  than 4,000 clubs and 4 million people nationwide, NOW,
   41  THEREFORE,

   45         That April 3-7, 2017, is designated as “Boys and Girls Club
   46  Week” in Florida.
