Paragraph (b) of subsection (7) of section 6 1012.56, Florida Statutes, is amended to read: 7 1012.56 Educator certification requirements.— 8 (7) TYPES AND TERMS OF CERTIFICATION.— 9 (b) The department shall issue a temporary certificate to 10 any applicant who completes the requirements outlined in 11 paragraphs (2)(a)-(f) and completes the subject area content 12 requirements specified in state board rule or demonstrates 13 mastery of subject area knowledge pursuant to subsection (5) and 14 holds an accredited degree or a degree approved by the 15 Department of Education at the level required for the subject 16 area specialization in state board rule, subject to the 17 following conditions: 18 1. If the applicant does not enroll in a teacher 19 preparation program or a teacher mentorship and induction 20 program within 90 days after the issuance of the temporary 21 certificate, the temporary certificate shall be revoked. 22 2. An applicant whose temporary certificate has been 23 revoked pursuant to subparagraph 1. must enroll in a teacher 24 preparation program or a teacher mentorship and induction 25 program before the department may issue the applicant a new 26 temporary certificate. 27 3. An applicant previously enrolled in a teacher 28 preparation program or a teacher mentorship and induction 29 program but who is no longer enrolled in the program has 30 days 30 to reenroll, or his or her temporary certificate shall be 31 revoked. 32 33 Each temporary certificate is valid for 3 school fiscal years 34 and is nonrenewable. However, the requirement in paragraph 35 (2)(g) must be met within 1 calendar year of the date of 36 employment under the temporary certificate. Individuals who are 37 employed under contract at the end of the 1 calendar year time 38 period may continue to be employed through the end of the school 39 year in which they have been contracted. A school district shall 40 not employ, or continue the employment of, an individual in a 41 position for which a temporary certificate is required beyond 42 this time period if the individual has not met the requirement 43 of paragraph (2)(g). The State Board of Education shall adopt 44 rules to allow the department to extend the validity period of a 45 temporary certificate for 2 years when the requirements for the 46 professional certificate, not including the requirement in 47 paragraph (2)(g), were not completed due to the serious illness 48 or injury of the applicant or other extraordinary extenuating 49 circumstances. The department shall reissue the temporary 50 certificate for 2 additional years upon approval by the 51 Commissioner of Education. A written request for reissuance of 52 the certificate shall be submitted by the district school 53 superintendent, the governing authority of a university lab 54 school, the governing authority of a state-supported school, or 55 the governing authority of a private school. 56 57 ================= T I T L E A M E N D M E N T ================ 58 And the title is amended as follows: 59 Delete line 105 60 and insert: 61 developed by the commissioner; amending s. 1012.56, 62 F.S.; specifying conditions under which a temporary 63 certificate for an educator shall be revoked; creating 64 the Committee
