    1                        A bill to be entitled                      
    2         An act relating to human papillomavirus vaccination;
    3         creating s. 1002.24, F.S.; requiring the Department of
    4         Education to distribute certain information relating
    5         to the human papillomavirus to the parents or
    6         guardians of specified students; providing that
    7         certain information must be included; requiring the
    8         Department of Health to approve the information;
    9         providing an effective date.

   11  Be It Enacted by the Legislature of the State of Florida:
   12  
   13         Section 1. Section 1002.24, Florida Statutes, is created to
   14  read:
   15         1002.24 Human papillomavirus information.—Beginning with
   16  the 2018-2019 school year, the Department of Education shall
   17  distribute information relating to the human papillomavirus to
   18  the parents or guardians of students entering grade 6. The
   19  information must, at a minimum, include the connection between
   20  the human papillomavirus and cervical cancer and other cancers
   21  and diseases; the availability of a vaccine to help prevent
   22  infection of the human papillomavirus; and that the Centers for
   23  Disease Control and Prevention recommends the vaccine be
   24  completed before a student reaches 12 years of age. The
   25  information must be approved by the Department of Health.
   26         Section 2. This act shall take effect July 1, 2018.
