    2         An act relating to abandoned animals; amending s.
    3         705.19, F.S.; specifying that an animal owner who
    4         abandons the animal has no expectation of privacy in
    5         the animal’s body or remains; providing an effective
    6         date.

    8  Be It Enacted by the Legislature of the State of Florida:
    9  
   10         Section 1. Subsection (3) of section 705.19, Florida
   11  Statutes, is amended to read:
   12         705.19 Abandonment of animals by owner; procedure for
   13  handling.—
   14         (3) For the purpose of this section, the term “abandonment”
   15  means to forsake entirely or to neglect or refuse to provide or
   16  perform the legal obligations for care and support of an animal
   17  by its owner or the owner’s agent. Such abandonment shall
   18  constitute the relinquishment of all rights and claim by the
   19  owner to such animal, including any expectation of privacy in
   20  the animal’s body or remains.
   21         Section 2. This act shall take effect July 1, 2018.
