    1                        A bill to be entitled                      
    2         An act relating to education facilities as emergency
    3         shelters; amending s. 1013.372, F.S.; requiring that
    4         education facilities that have received public
    5         education capital outlay funding be made available to
    6         county and state emergency management offices during a
    7         state of emergency for specified purposes; providing
    8         an effective date.

   10  Be It Enacted by the Legislature of the State of Florida:
   11  
   12         Section 1. Subsection (4) is added to section 1013.372,
   13  Florida Statutes, to read:
   14         1013.372 Education facilities as emergency shelters.—
   15         (4) Notwithstanding any other provision of law, a school
   16  district, Florida College System institution, or state
   17  university that has received public education capital outlay
   18  funds for a facility shall make such facility available to the
   19  county and state emergency management offices as a resource
   20  during a state of emergency as an emergency shelter or, if such
   21  facility does not meet the public shelter design criteria in the
   22  Florida Building Code, in any other capacity as may be
   23  necessary.
   24         Section 2. This act shall take effect July 1, 2018.
