    2         An act relating to an election alert system; creating
    3         s. 101.622, F.S.; establishing an election alert
    4         system to notify electors of certain voting
    5         information; providing system requirements; providing
    6         an effective date.

    8  Be It Enacted by the Legislature of the State of Florida:
    9  
   10         Section 1. Section 101.622, Florida Statutes, is created to
   11  read:
   12         101.622 Election alert system.—
   13         (1) The supervisor of elections shall establish an election
   14  alert system consistent with this section.
   15         (2) The supervisor of elections shall, on the supervisor’s
   16  website or the elector’s voter registration form, or both if the
   17  supervisor chooses, provide an elector with the ability to
   18  receive alerts.
   19         (3) The alert system must provide electors with a text
   20  message or an e-mail notification informing the elector that
   21  voting has begun and of any changes in voting hours or
   22  locations. The message or e-mail must be sent by 11 a.m. on the
   23  first day of early voting and on election day, and it must
   24  provide a link to precinct polling places and the hours the
   25  precinct polling places are open.
   26         Section 2. This act shall take effect July 1, 2018.
