Florida Senate - 2018 (NP) SR 1818 By Senator Campbell 38-01360A-18 20181818__ 1 Senate Resolution 2 A resolution recognizing the Town of Golden Beach on 3 the occasion of the 89th anniversary of its founding. 4 5 WHEREAS, the Town of Golden Beach was incorporated on May 6 19, 1928, with the sleight of hand of residents of the enclave, 7 who liberally construed the meaning of “residency” to allow 8 visitors to vote on the measure to ensure passage with the 9 required number of votes, and 10 WHEREAS, it wasn’t until May 23, 1929, that the Florida 11 Legislature adopted a special act officially authorizing the 12 incorporation, and 13 WHEREAS, founded by brothers R.W. and Henry G. Ralston, who 14 transformed the land from mangrove swamps into an exclusive 15 waterfront community, the Town of Golden Beach was recognized by 16 Ripley’s as the only town in the nation with a jail from which 17 you could fish by putting a pole out of the window, and 18 WHEREAS, once home to families such as the Firestones, the 19 DuPonts, and the Roosevelts, the Town of Golden Beach continues 20 to attract celebrities as well as ordinary people, and 21 WHEREAS, the Town of Golden Beach Council is led by Mayor 22 Glenn Singer and Vice Mayor Judy Lusskin and residents are 23 represented by council members Kenneth Bernstein, Jaime Mendal, 24 and Amy Isackson-Rojas, and the Town Manager is Alexander Diaz, 25 NOW, THEREFORE, 26 27 Be It Resolved by the Senate of the State of Florida: 28 29 That the Town of Golden Beach is recognized on the occasion 30 of the 89th anniversary of its founding.
