Florida Senate - 2018 (NP) SR 1932 By Senator Garcia 36-03397-18 20181932__ 1 Senate Resolution 2 A resolution to recognize February 2018 as “Safe Haven 3 for Newborns Month” in Florida. 4 5 WHEREAS, tragic cases of infant abandonment remain a 6 reality in Florida and nationwide, and 7 WHEREAS, a society in which children are born to mothers 8 and fathers lacking the capability and resources with which to 9 nurture them must find ways to step in and provide shelter for 10 each newborn child until a home can be found for that child, and 11 WHEREAS, the A Safe Haven for Newborns organization 12 provides a safe and legal solution to the quandary of the 13 parents of such children, saving the lives of infants otherwise 14 in danger of abandonment and simultaneously preserving their 15 biological parents from a lifetime of guilt, anguish, and 16 irreparable regret, and 17 WHEREAS, A Safe Haven for Newborns helps to fulfill the 18 dreams and needs of many Florida families who are prepared to 19 raise children and who are waiting and hoping to adopt children, 20 and 21 WHEREAS, in addition to the counseling and support that A 22 Safe Haven for Newborns provides to often young and unprepared 23 parents-to-be who are in extreme crisis, it also works with a 24 variety of professionals to address the conditions leading to 25 these potentially tragic pregnancies and births, and 26 WHEREAS, in creating A Safe Haven for Newborns, the Gloria 27 M. Silverio Foundation has provided a magnificent service to 28 Florida communities and vital leadership to others across the 29 nation who share the organization’s imperative to prevent the 30 tragedy of infant abandonment, NOW, THEREFORE, 31 32 Be It Resolved by the Senate of the State of Florida: 33 34 That February 2018 is recognized as “Safe Haven for 35 Newborns Month” in Florida.
