Floor: 1a/F/2R . 03/07/2018 01:44 PM . ————————————————————————————————————————————————————————————————— ————————————————————————————————————————————————————————————————— Senator Thurston moved the following: 1 Senate Amendment to Amendment (397172) (with title 2 amendment) 3 4 Delete lines 83 - 111 5 and insert: 6 (1)(a) If not already required by the licensee’s practice 7 act, the appropriate board shall require each person registered 8 with the United States Drug Enforcement Administration and 9 authorized to prescribe controlled substances pursuant to 21 10 U.S.C. s. 822 to complete a board-approved 2-hour continuing 11 education course on prescribing controlled substances as part of 12 biennial license renewal. The course must include information on 13 the current standards for prescribing controlled substances, 14 particularly opiates; alternatives to these standards; 15 nonpharmacological therapies; prescribing emergency opioid 16 antagonists; and the risks of opioid addiction following all 17 stages of treatment in the management of acute pain. The course 18 may be offered in a distance learning format and must be 19 included within the number of continuing education hours 20 required by law. The department may not renew the license of any 21 prescriber registered with the United States Drug Enforcement 22 Administration to prescribe controlled substances who has failed 23 to complete the course.
