    1                        A bill to be entitled                      
    2         An act relating to developmental disabilities;
    3         amending s. 393.063, F.S.; revising the term
    4         “developmental disability” to include the disorder and
    5         symptoms attributable to Duchenne muscular dystrophy;
    6         providing an effective date.

    8  Be It Enacted by the Legislature of the State of Florida:
    9  
   10         Section 1. Subsection (12) of section 393.063, Florida
   11  Statutes, is amended to read:
   12         393.063 Definitions.—For the purposes of this chapter, the
   13  term:
   14         (12) “Developmental disability” means a disorder or
   15  syndrome that is attributable to intellectual disability,
   16  cerebral palsy, autism, spina bifida, Down syndrome, Phelan
   17  McDermid syndrome, or Prader-Willi syndrome, or Duchenne
   18  muscular dystrophy; that manifests before the age of 18; and
   19  that constitutes a substantial handicap that can reasonably be
   20  expected to continue indefinitely.
   21         Section 2. This act shall take effect July 1, 2018.
