House Comm: RCS . 04/02/2019 . . . . ————————————————————————————————————————————————————————————————— ————————————————————————————————————————————————————————————————— The Committee on Education (Stargel) recommended the following: 1 Senate Amendment (with title amendment) 2 3 Delete lines 32 - 36 4 and insert: 5 for the civics education course must be reviewed and approved by 6 the Commissioner of Education in consultation with organizations 7 that may include, but are not limited to, the Florida Joint 8 Center for Citizenship, the Bill of Rights Institute, Hillsdale 9 College, the Gilder Lehrman Institute of American History, 10 iCivics, and the Constitutional Sources Project, and in 11 consultation with educators, school administrators, 12 postsecondary education representatives, elected officials, 13 business and industry leaders, parents, and the public. Any 14 errors and inaccuracies the commissioner identifies in state 15 adopted materials must be corrected pursuant to s. 1006.35. 16 After consulting with such entities and individuals, the 17 commissioner shall review the current state-approved civics 18 education course instructional materials and the statewide EOC 19 assessment test specifications and shall make recommendations 20 for improvements to the materials and test specifications by 21 December 31, 2019.
