    1                          Senate Resolution                        
    2         A resolution recognizing April 21-27, 2019, as “Health
    3         Information Technology Week” in Florida.
    4  
    5         WHEREAS, using the latest technology, health care providers
    6  in this state share information safely, securely, and in real
    7  time, thereby connecting doctors and patients to more complete
    8  and accurate health records, which affords residents of this
    9  state access to the highest quality of health care, and
   10         WHEREAS, comprehensive health care reform is not possible
   11  without the systemwide adoption of health information
   12  technology, which improves the quality of health care delivery,
   13  increases patient safety, decreases the number of medical
   14  errors, controls costs, strengthens the interaction between
   15  patients and health care providers, and expands access to care,
   16  and
   17         WHEREAS, the Healthcare Information and Management Systems
   18  Society (HIMSS) is a nonprofit organization of volunteers,
   19  including more than 4,291 members in this state, who are
   20  committed to the adoption of policies in support of the optimal
   21  use of health information technology, and
   22         WHEREAS, HIMSS recognizes 14 hospitals and more than 12
   23  ambulatory facilities in this state as having attained a Stage 7
   24  ranking under the Electronic Medical Record Adoption Model, the
   25  highest possible ranking, which indicates that a health system
   26  has an advanced electronic patient record environment, and
   27         WHEREAS, more than 255 hospitals in this state are
   28  participating in the Florida Health Information Exchange Event
   29  Notification Service, providing more than 1.1 million
   30  notifications per month to clinics, physicians, health plans,
   31  accountable care organizations, and other health care
   32  organizations in this state to foster improved continuity of
   33  care and care coordination for more than 8.2 million patients in
   34  this state, and
   35         WHEREAS, since January 2011, more than 29,100 eligible
   36  hospitals and professionals in this state have participated in
   37  the Electronic Health Record Incentive Program by adopting and
   38  effectively using certified electronic health record technology,
   39  and
   40         WHEREAS, Health Information Technology Week honors the
   41  commitment and service of the clinicians, information technology
   42  executives, directors, and managers who work in this state’s
   43  health care provider institutions, payer organizations, the
   44  military and other branches of government, academic centers, and
   45  supplier and consulting companies, and
   46         WHEREAS, since 2006, states and organizations across the
   47  nation have united to support Health Information Technology Week
   48  to raise public awareness of the benefits of improved quality
   49  and cost efficiency in the health care system which the
   50  implementation of health information technology is achieving,
   51  NOW, THEREFORE,

   53  Be It Resolved by the Senate of the State of Florida:
   54  
   55         That April 21-27, 2019, is recognized as “Health
   56  Information Technology Week” in Florida.
   57         BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that a copy of this resolution, with
   58  the Seal of the Senate affixed, be presented to representatives
   59  of the Healthcare Information and Management Systems Society as
   60  a tangible token of the sentiments of the Florida Senate.
