Florida Senate - 2019 (NP) SR 1824 By Senator Bradley 5-02981A-19 20191824__ 1 Senate Resolution 2 A resolution recognizing April 2019 as “Springs 3 Protection Awareness Month” in Florida. 4 5 WHEREAS, Florida’s springs are essential to the environment 6 and the economy and to the residents of and visitors to this 7 state, and 8 WHEREAS, Florida has one of the most productive aquifers in 9 the world, which supports more than 900 natural springs and 10 gives this state one of the world’s highest concentrations of 11 springs, and 12 WHEREAS, the groundwater supply is vital to the state’s 13 economy, and approximately 93 percent of Florida residents rely 14 on it for their drinking water, and 15 WHEREAS, Florida’s springs reflect groundwater conditions 16 and provide an important habitat for wildlife, making them a 17 natural resource that must be protected, and 18 WHEREAS, springs provide important recreational resources 19 and opportunities that are enjoyed by residents and visitors 20 alike, and 21 WHEREAS, Florida’s springs discharge nearly 8 billion 22 gallons of water each day, and healthy springs reflect the State 23 of Florida’s commitment to sustainable groundwater and surface 24 water resource protection, NOW, THEREFORE, 25 26 Be It Resolved by the Senate of the State of Florida: 27 28 That April 2019 is recognized as “Springs Protection 29 Awareness Month” in Florida.
