Florida Senate - 2019 (NP) SR 1840 By Senator Farmer 34-03648A-19 20191840__ 1 Senate Resolution 2 A resolution congratulating the members of the Florida 3 State University Seminoles 2018 softball team and 4 their coaches on an outstanding season and on winning 5 the 2018 National Collegiate Athletic Association 6 Division 1 Softball Championship. 7 8 WHEREAS, the Florida State University Seminoles 2018 9 softball team won the 2018 National Collegiate Athletic 10 Association (NCAA) Division 1 Softball Championship by defeating 11 the University of Washington Huskies softball team 8-3 on June 12 5, 2018, and 13 WHEREAS, while playing in the NCAA’s Women’s College World 14 Series (WCWS), the FSU Seminoles softball team finished in the 15 top 5 of 15 WCWS record book team categories, set 2 WCWS team 16 records for stolen bases and attempted stolen bases, and tied 17 the WCWS record for most wins, and 18 WHEREAS, individually, members of the FSU Seminoles 19 softball team finished in the top 5 of 15 WCWS record book 20 individual categories and set 3 individual records: most stolen 21 bases, Dani Morgan; advancing the most runners, Elizabeth Mason; 22 and highest earned run average, Meghan King, and 23 WHEREAS, Jessie Warren tied the WCWS record for most base 24 hits with 13, and her teammates Jessie Warren, Meghan King, Anna 25 Shelnutt, Elizabeth Mason, and Sydney Sherrill were named to the 26 WCWS All-Tournament Team, and 27 WHEREAS, 2018 was the sixth consecutive year that the FSU 28 Seminoles softball team reached the NCAA Super Regional round, 29 and 30 WHEREAS, in addition to winning the 2018 NCAA Championship, 31 the FSU Seminoles softball team was also the 2018 Atlantic Coast 32 Conference (ACC) Regular Season Champion for the sixth 33 consecutive year and the 2018 ACC Tournament Champion for the 34 fifth consecutive year, and 35 WHEREAS, teammates Jessie Warren, Kylee Hanson, Sydney 36 Sherrill, Zoe Casas, and Meghan King were named to the All-ACC 37 First Team, while Carsyn Gordon was named to the All-ACC Second 38 Team, and 39 WHEREAS, Jessie Warren was named the ACC Player of the 40 Year, Kylee Hanson was named ACC Pitcher of the Year, and Sydney 41 Sherrill was named ACC Freshman of the Year, and 42 WHEREAS, other members of the FSU Seminoles softball team 43 who earned additional honors are Kylee Hanson and Sydney 44 Sherrill, both of whom were named the National Fastpitch Coaches 45 Association (NFCA) and USA Softball National Player of the Week; 46 Jessie Warren, Kylee Hanson, and Sydney Sherrill, who were named 47 NFCA All-Americans; and Kylee Hanson, Carsyn Gordon, Jessie 48 Warren, Sydney Sherrill, and Meghan King, who were named NFCA 49 Southeast All-Region Members, and 50 WHEREAS, as a freshman, Sydney Sherrill finished the season 51 with 29 doubles, an ACC single-season record, and Jessie Warren 52 finished her career with the team with 83 home runs, 273 runs 53 batted in, 229 runs scored, and a .820 slugging percentage, 54 setting NCAA, team, and personal records, and 55 WHEREAS, members of the coaching staff of the FSU Seminoles 56 softball team also were recognized for their outstanding work 57 and dedication, with Head Coach Lonni Alameda and assistant 58 coaches Travis Wilson, Craig Snider named the 2018 NFCA National 59 Coaching Staff of the Year, and 60 WHEREAS, as a team, the FSU Seminoles softball team hit 115 61 doubles during the 2018 season, setting a team and ACC single 62 season record; hit 76 home runs, setting a team record; and won 63 36 consecutive ACC games from May 7, 2016, to April 6, 2018, the 64 fifth longest conference winning streak in NCAA history, NOW, 65 THEREFORE, 66 67 Be It Resolved by the Senate of the State of Florida: 68 69 That the Florida State University Seminoles 2018 softball 70 team is congratulated on their exemplary season and on winning 71 the 2018 National Collegiate Athletic Association Division 1 72 Softball Championship. 73 BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that copies of this resolution be 74 presented to the president of Florida State University, John 75 Thrasher; Interim Athletics Director, David Coburn; Head 76 Softball Coach, Lonni Alameda; and each assistant coach and 77 member of the Florida State University Seminoles 2018 softball 78 team as a tangible token of the sentiments expressed herein.
