    1                          Senate Resolution                        
    2         A resolution celebrating the life and work of Eucario
    3         Bermúdez and remembering his enduring contribution to
    4         the South Florida Colombian-American community.
    5  
    6         WHEREAS, Eucario Bermúdez was a longtime resident of South
    7  Florida and a pillar of the local Colombian-American community,
    8  and
    9         WHEREAS, Eucario Bermúdez was the founder and creator of
   10  several media companies, including Caracol Radio 1260 AM, which
   11  gave a voice to members of the Colombian-American community and
   12  served as a bridge between that community and other segments of
   13  the larger South Florida Hispanic population, and
   14         WHEREAS, before coming to the United States, Eucario
   15  Bermúdez worked in radio and television for a number of years in
   16  his native Colombia, and he quickly established himself as an
   17  announcer, newscaster, and talk show host in South Florida, and
   18         WHEREAS, Eucario Bermúdez was known for his fervent defense
   19  of the republican and democratic institutions of the United
   20  States and for his support of the arts and culture, and
   21         WHEREAS, Eucario Bermúdez also was known as a political
   22  organizer in the Colombian-American community, creating and
   23  promoting community and political organizations with the goal of
   24  increasing the power of Colombian Americans and the South
   25  Florida Hispanic population as a whole, and
   26         WHEREAS, Eucario Bermúdez died in Miami on January 6, 2019,
   27  at the age of 84, leaving behind a legacy of community activism,
   28  NOW, THEREFORE,

   30  Be It Resolved by the Senate of the State of Florida:

   32         That the life and work of Eucario Bermúdez is celebrated
   33  and remembered.
