2 An act relating to emergency power for facilities
3 providing dialysis services; amending s. 553.73, F.S.;
4 directing the Florida Building Code to require
5 facilities that provide dialysis services to have an
6 operational emergency power source; defining the term
7 “emergency power source”; providing an effective date.

9 Be It Enacted by the Legislature of the State of Florida:

11 Section 1. Subsection (21) is added to section 553.73,
12 Florida Statutes, to read:
13 553.73 Florida Building Code.—
14 (21) The Florida Building Code must require all facilities
15 that provide dialysis services to have an operational emergency
16 power source. For purposes of this subsection, the term
17 “emergency power source” means a system that provides an
18 independent source of electric power during a loss of power
19 supply and includes a supply of fuel sufficient to sustain the
20 emergency power source for at least 7 days during a power
21 outage. An emergency power system may include a generator,
22 batteries, and other essential accessories needed to power the
23 emergency power system.
24 Section 2. This act shall take effect July 1, 2019.
