Florida Senate - 2020 (NP) SR 1572 By Senator Stewart 13-00941B-20 20201572__ 1 Senate Resolution 2 A resolution expressing the Legislature’s recognition 3 of this state’s susceptibility to climate change and 4 its intention to adopt policies to combat climate 5 change. 6 7 WHEREAS, climate change, a naturally occurring and human 8 made phenomenon exacerbated by the actions of humans and the 9 release of greenhouse gasses into the atmosphere, is a real and 10 existing threat to the future of this state, its economy, and 11 its residents, and 12 WHEREAS, this state faces increasing air temperatures and 13 water vapor, increasing ocean temperatures, rising sea levels, 14 more frequent and severe storm events, agricultural crop-yield 15 changes, threats to its clean water supply, and flooding as a 16 result of climate change, and 17 WHEREAS, with 1,350 miles of low elevation coastline and 75 18 percent of this state’s population living in coastal counties 19 that generate 80 percent of this state’s economic output, all 20 sectors of the economy are threatened by climate change and the 21 resulting sea-level rise, NOW, THEREFORE, 22 23 Be It Resolved by the Senate of the State of Florida: 24 25 That the Legislature intends to adopt policies to reduce 26 this state’s overall greenhouse gas output, transition to 27 renewable and clean energy, protect the state’s water supply, 28 and develop a sustainable plan to address rising sea levels.
