The Committee on Health Policy (Harrell) recommended the
following:
1 Senate Amendment (with directory and title amendments)

3 Between lines 252 and 253
4 insert:
5 (b) If an applicant has not been issued a social security
6 number by the Federal Government at the time of application
7 because the applicant is not a citizen or resident of this
8 country, the department may process the application using a
9 unique personal identification number. If such an applicant is
10 otherwise eligible for licensure, the board, or the department
11 when there is no board, may issue a temporary license to the
12 applicant, which shall expire 30 days after issuance unless a
13 social security number is obtained and submitted in writing to
14 the department. A temporary license issued under this paragraph
15 to an applicant who has accepted a position with an accredited
16 residency, internship, or fellowship program in this state and
17 is applying for registration under s. 458.345 or s. 459.021
18 shall expire 60 days after issuance unless the applicant obtains
19 a social security number and submits it in writing to the
20 department. Upon receipt of the applicant’s social security
21 number, the department shall issue a new license, which shall
22 expire at the end of the current biennium.
