The Committee on Commerce and Tourism (Albritton) recommended
the following:
1 Senate Amendment (with title amendment)

3 Delete lines 1883 - 1899
4 and insert:
5 (3)(a) Each certificateholder or registrant licensed as a
6 specialty contractor or an alarm system contractor shall provide
7 proof, in a form established by rule of the board, that the
8 certificateholder or registrant has completed at least 7 14
9 classroom hours of at least 50 minutes each of continuing
10 education courses during each biennium since the issuance or
11 renewal of the certificate or registration. The board shall by
12 rule establish criteria for the approval of continuing education
13 courses and providers and may by rule establish criteria for
14 accepting alternative nonclassroom continuing education on an
15 hour-for-hour basis.
16 (b) Each certificateholder or registrant licensed as an
17 electrical contractor shall provide proof, in a form established
18 by rule of the board, that the certificateholder or registrant
19 has completed at least 11 classroom hours of at least 50 minutes
20 each of continuing education courses during each biennium since
21 the issuance or renewal of the certificate or registration. The
22 board shall by rule establish criteria for the approval of
23 continuing education courses and providers and may by rule
24 establish criteria for accepting alternative nonclassroom
25 continuing education on an hour-for-hour basis.

27 (b)1. For licensed specialty contractors or alarm system
28 contractors, of the 7 14 classroom hours of continuing education
29 required, at least 1 hour 7 hours must be on technical subjects,
30 1 hour on workers’ compensation, 1 hour on workplace safety, 1
31 hour on business practices, and for alarm system contractors and
32 electrical contractors engaged in alarm system contracting, 2
33 hours on false alarm prevention.
34 2. For licensed electrical contractors, of the minimum 11
35 classroom hours of continuing education required, at least 7
36 hours must be on technical subjects, 1 hour on workers’
37 compensation, 1 hour on workplace safety, and 1 hour on business
38 practices. Electrical contractors engaged in alarm system
39 contracting must also complete 2 hours on false alarm
40 prevention.
