Florida Senate - 2021 (NP) SR 1012 By Senator Baxley 12-01341-21 20211012__ 1 Senate Resolution 2 A resolution recognizing March 2021 as “Kidney Disease 3 Awareness Month” and March 11, 2021, as “World Kidney 4 Day” in Florida. 5 6 WHEREAS, chronic kidney disease (CKD) is the progressive, 7 gradual loss of kidney function which results in a decrease in 8 the ability of the kidneys to remove waste from the body, and 9 WHEREAS, it is estimated that 37 million adults in the 10 United States have CKD, and of those, approximately 90 percent 11 remain undiagnosed, and 12 WHEREAS, without diagnosis and treatment to slow its 13 progression, CKD can progress to end-stage renal failure, which 14 is fatal unless the patient receives dialysis or a kidney 15 transplant, and 16 WHEREAS, CKD is associated with more severe COVID-19 17 infections, and COVID-19 may cause acute kidney damage that can 18 lead to dialysis or even death, and 19 WHEREAS, regular screening and early detection can prevent 20 the progression of kidney disease to kidney failure, and it is 21 essential that awareness of kidney disease and the importance of 22 prevention and early detection be raised, and 23 WHEREAS, kidney disease awareness empowers patients and 24 families to seek diagnosis, support, and appropriate treatment, 25 NOW, THEREFORE, 26 27 Be It Resolved by the Senate of the State of Florida: 28 29 That March 2021 is recognized as “Kidney Disease Awareness 30 Month” and March 11, 2021, is recognized as “World Kidney Day” 31 in Florida.
