Florida Senate - 2021 (NP) SR 1124 By Senator Berman 31-01291-21 20211124__ 1 Senate Resolution 2 A resolution recognizing March 2021 as “Colorectal 3 Cancer Awareness Month” in Florida. 4 5 WHEREAS, excluding skin cancers, colorectal cancer is the 6 third most common cancer diagnosed in both men and women in the 7 United States, and 8 WHEREAS, the American Cancer Society projects that, in 9 2021, there will be 140,500 new cases of colorectal cancer in 10 the United States, and 11 WHEREAS, the American Cancer Society projects that, in 12 2021, there will be 11,220 new cases of colorectal cancer in 13 Florida and that 4,360 Floridians will die from colorectal 14 cancer, and 15 WHEREAS, the colorectal cancer survival rate could increase 16 if adults older than 45 years of age were regularly screened to 17 discover the cancer in its earliest stages, and 18 WHEREAS, increasing awareness of and education concerning 19 colorectal cancer will lead to significant progress in both 20 preventing and overcoming the disease, as the majority of cases 21 have proven to be both treatable and survivable when discovered 22 early, NOW, THEREFORE, 23 24 Be It Resolved by the Senate of the State of Florida: 25 26 That March 2021 is recognized as “Colorectal Cancer 27 Awareness Month” in Florida.
