Florida Senate - 2021 SB 1762 By Senator Gruters 23-00683B-21 20211762__ 1 A bill to be entitled 2 An act relating to the Florida Postsecondary Student 3 Assistance Grant Program; amending s. 1009.52, F.S.; 4 expanding grant eligibility to certificate-seeking 5 students; expanding the postsecondary institution list 6 for grant-eligible students to include institutions 7 licensed by the Commission for Independent Education 8 which prepare students to obtain Airframe and 9 Powerplant certification from the Federal Aviation 10 Administration; providing an effective date. 11 12 Be It Enacted by the Legislature of the State of Florida: 13 14 Section 1. Paragraph (a) of subsection (2) of section 15 1009.52, Florida Statutes, is amended to read: 16 1009.52 Florida Postsecondary Student Assistance Grant 17 Program; eligibility for grants.— 18 (2)(a) Florida postsecondary student assistance grants may 19 be made only to full-time degree-seeking students who meet the 20 general requirements for student eligibility as provided in s. 21 1009.40 or to certificate-seeking students, except as otherwise 22 provided in this section. Such grants shall be awarded for the 23 amount of demonstrated unmet need for tuition and fees and may 24 not exceed the maximum annual award amount specified in the 25 General Appropriations Act. A demonstrated unmet need of less 26 than $200 shall render the applicant ineligible for a Florida 27 postsecondary student assistance grant. Recipients of such 28 grants must have been accepted at a postsecondary institution 29 that is located in this state and that is: 30 1. A private nursing diploma school approved by the Florida 31 Board of Nursing;or32 2. A college or university licensed by the Commission for 33 Independent Education, excluding those institutions the students 34 of which are eligible to receive a Florida private student 35 assistance grant pursuant to s. 1009.51; or 36 3. An institution licensed by the Commission for 37 Independent Education which prepares students to obtain Airframe 38 and Powerplant certification from the Federal Aviation 39 Administration. 40 41 If funds are available, a student who received an award in the 42 fall or spring term may receive an award in the summer term. 43 Priority in the distribution of summer awards shall be given to 44 students who are within one semester of completing a degree or 45 certificate program. No student may receive an award for more 46 than the equivalent of 9 semesters or 14 quarters of full-time 47 enrollment, except as otherwise provided in s. 1009.40(3). 48 Section 2. This act shall take effect July 1, 2021.
