Florida Senate - 2021 SB 1964 By Senator Cruz 18-01063-21 20211964__ 1 A bill to be entitled 2 An act relating to persons authorized to visit charter 3 schools; creating s. 1002.341, F.S.; authorizing the 4 Governor, all Cabinet members, and all members of the 5 Legislature to visit any charter school in this state; 6 authorizing such a visitor to visit a charter school 7 on any day at any time; providing that no prior notice 8 is required for the visit; prohibiting any person from 9 limiting the scope or duration of the visit; 10 authorizing a charter school to require a visitor to 11 sign in and out at the charter school’s main office 12 and to wear an identification badge at all times while 13 on the premises; authorizing a charter school to 14 offer, but not require, an escort to accompany the 15 visitor; providing an effective date. 16 17 Be It Enacted by the Legislature of the State of Florida: 18 19 Section 1. Section 1002.341, Florida Statutes, is created 20 to read: 21 1002.341 Persons authorized to visit charter schools.— 22 (1) In addition to the persons specified under s. 23 1001.4205, the Governor, all Cabinet members, and all members of 24 the Legislature are authorized to visit any charter school in 25 this state, including a lab school established under s. 1002.32 26 to which a charter has been issued under s. 1002.33(5)(a)2., a 27 charter school established under s. 1002.33, a charter school 28 designated as a high-performing charter school under s. 29 1002.331, and a charter technical career center established 30 under s. 1002.34. 31 (2) A person visiting a charter school pursuant to 32 subsection (1) may visit on any day at any time. No prior notice 33 is required for the visit, and no person may limit the duration 34 or scope of the visit. 35 (3) A charter school may require a person visiting pursuant 36 to subsection (1) to sign in and out at the charter school’s 37 main office and to wear an identification badge at all times 38 while on the charter school premises. A charter school may 39 offer, but not require, an escort to accompany a visitor. 40 Section 2. This act shall take effect July 1, 2021.
