Florida Senate - 2021 (NP) SR 2018 By Senator Bean 4-02556-21 20212018__ 1 Senate Resolution 2 A resolution recognizing the 30th anniversary of the 3 founding of the Florida Healthy Kids Corporation. 4 5 WHEREAS, the Florida Healthy Kids Corporation, a nonprofit 6 organization created by the Florida Legislature in 1990, has 7 operated successfully for 30 years to ensure all children have 8 access to affordable, comprehensive, and quality health and 9 dental care, and 10 WHEREAS, Florida Healthy Kids existed before the national 11 Children’s Health Insurance Program (CHIP), which was signed 12 into law in 1997, and was grandfathered into the CHIP 13 legislation by the United States Congress, and 14 WHEREAS, Florida Healthy Kids is governed by a dedicated 15 board of directors composed of top officials of state agencies 16 responsible for the welfare of children, as well as physicians, 17 dentists, and other experts on children’s health policy and 18 medical care, and 19 WHEREAS, Florida Healthy Kids has successfully fulfilled 20 its statutory duties of managing children’s health and dental 21 plans and associated administrative functions, including insurer 22 procurement and management, eligibility determination and 23 enrollment, compliance, fiscal administration, reporting, and 24 related customer services, and 25 WHEREAS, Florida Healthy Kids is responsible for the 26 marketing of Florida KidCare, the umbrella brand for the four 27 government-sponsored health insurance programs serving children 28 including Medicaid for children, MediKids, Florida Healthy Kids, 29 and the Children’s Medical Services Managed Care Plan, and 30 WHEREAS, Florida Healthy Kids creates affordable subsidized 31 and full-pay plans for children from 5 years of age through 18 32 years of age, with affordable subsidized premiums for children 33 in lower-income families, and affordable nonsubsidized coverage 34 for any child in this state in a family with income that exceeds 35 a certain income threshold, and 36 WHEREAS, Florida Healthy Kids successfully engages key 37 stakeholders in this state, including community organizations, 38 hospitals, health care clinics, and school districts, to 39 consistently fulfill its mission to actively increase the number 40 of insured kids by developing child-centered health plans and 41 connecting families to coverage, NOW, THEREFORE, 42 43 Be It Resolved by the Senate of the State of Florida: 44 45 That the Florida Healthy Kids Corporation is recognized for 46 its 30 years of resolute dedication to increasing access to 47 comprehensive, affordable, and quality health care services to 48 improve the health of Florida’s children and reduce the 49 incidence and costs of childhood illnesses and disabilities 50 among children in our state.
