    1                          Senate Resolution                        
    2         A resolution commemorating the 100th anniversary of
    3         the creation of Highlands County.
    4  
    5         WHEREAS, in 1921, during the 18th Regular Session of the
    6  Legislature, a bill was introduced to divide DeSoto County into
    7  Charlotte, DeSoto, Glades, Hardee, and Highlands Counties, and
    8         WHEREAS, on April 23, 1921, Governor Cary Hardee, who was
    9  in his first year of office, signed that bill into law, making
   10  Highlands County this state’s 56th county, and
   11         WHEREAS, The Florida Handbook notes that the county’s name
   12  suggests the pleasant hilliness of the area, NOW, THEREFORE,

   14  Be It Resolved by the Senate of the State of Florida:
   15  
   16         That the 100th anniversary of the creation of Highlands
   17  County is commemorated.
