House Comm: RCS . 01/10/2022 . . . . ————————————————————————————————————————————————————————————————— ————————————————————————————————————————————————————————————————— The Committee on Judiciary (Bradley) recommended the following: 1 Senate Substitute for Amendment (397986) 2 3 Delete lines 822 - 846 4 and insert: 5 (4) Service of process must also be made on unknown parties 6 by both of the following means: 7 (a) By attaching the summons and complaint to a conspicuous 8 location on the premises involved in the proceedings. 9 (b) Upon issuance of the summons, by the plaintiff 10 providing the clerk of the court with one additional copy of the 11 summons and complaint for each unknown occupant and a prestamped 12 envelope for each unknown occupant addressed to the unknown 13 occupant at the address of the premises involved in the 14 proceedings. The clerk of the court shall immediately mail a 15 copy of the summons and complaint by first-class mail, note the 16 fact of mailing in the docket, and file a certificate in the 17 court file of the fact and date of mailing. The clerk of the 18 court shall charge such fees for such services as provided by 19 law. 20 (5) Service is effective on the unknown party in possession 21 on the later of the date that personal service is made, the date 22 of attaching the summons and complaint to a conspicuous location 23 on the premises, or upon mailing by the clerk.
