Florida Senate - 2022 (NP) SR 1966 By Senator Ausley 3-02343A-22 20221966__ 1 Senate Resolution 2 A resolution recognizing the Florida State University 3 women’s soccer team and congratulating the team on 4 capturing the 2021 NCAA Division 1 National 5 Championship after a remarkable season. 6 7 WHEREAS, the Florida State University women’s soccer team 8 defeated Brigham Young University in a shootout to win the 2021 9 NCAA Division 1 National Championship, and 10 WHEREAS, goalkeeper Cristina Roque had two saves during 11 penalty shots to help decide the championship, and 12 WHEREAS, in that championship game, Florida State 13 University held Brigham Young University, whose offense averaged 14 3.5 goals per game, scoreless through 110 minutes of play, and 15 WHEREAS, the Seminoles allowed just a single goal in the 16 run of play throughout the NCAA tournament, and 17 WHEREAS, the Florida State University women’s soccer team 18 has appeared in 12 College Cups, including appearing in 8 of the 19 last 11 years, and 20 WHEREAS, the 2021 NCAA tournament is Florida State 21 University’s 22nd consecutive tournament, and the Seminoles are 22 one of only eight schools at the Division 1 level to post a 23 streak of 20 consecutive NCAA tournament appearances, and 24 WHEREAS, to date, Florida State University has a record of 25 71-18-5 in the NCAA tournament, for a .782 winning percentage — 26 the second-best of all time, and 27 WHEREAS, the 2021 National Championship game appearance was 28 Florida State’s third in the last 4 years, and fifth in the last 29 9 years, and 30 WHEREAS, Florida State University is one of just two 31 schools to ever win three titles in an 8-year span, and 32 WHEREAS, the Seminoles now have the second-most NCAA titles 33 in the history of the sport, and 34 WHEREAS, Head Coach Mark Krikorian is the fifth-winningest 35 active college coach and has the second-highest winning 36 percentage at .786, NOW, THEREFORE, 37 38 Be It Resolved by the Senate of the State of Florida: 39 40 That the Florida State University women’s soccer team is 41 recognized and congratulated on capturing the 2021 NCAA Division 42 1 National Championship after a remarkable season. 43 BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that a copy of this resolution, with 44 the Seal of the Senate affixed, be presented to Florida State 45 University President Richard McCullough, Ph.D., Director of 46 Athletics Michael Alford, Head Coach Mark Krikorian, the 47 coaching staff, and the members of the Florida State University 48 Seminoles women’s soccer team as a tangible token of the 49 sentiments of the Florida Senate.
