    1                        A bill to be entitled                      
    2         An act relating to using alternative therapies to
    3         treat mental health and other medical conditions;
    4         requiring the Department of Health, in collaboration
    5         with the Board of Medicine, to conduct a study
    6         regarding the use of alternative therapies in the
    7         treatment of mental health and other medical
    8         conditions; providing requirements for the study;
    9         requiring the department to submit a report to the
   10         Governor and Legislature by a specified date;
   11         providing for future expiration; providing an
   12         effective date.
   13          
   14  Be It Enacted by the Legislature of the State of Florida:
   15  
   16         Section 1. (1)(a)The Department of Health, in
   17  collaboration with the Board of Medicine, shall conduct a study
   18  evaluating the therapeutic efficacy of alternative therapies,
   19  including the use of 3,4-methylenedioxymethamphetamine,
   20  psilocybin, and ketamine, in treating mental health and other
   21  medical conditions, including all of the following:
   22         1.Depression.
   23         2.Anxiety.
   24         3.Posttraumatic stress disorder.
   25         4.Bipolar disorder.
   26         5.Chronic pain.
   27         6.Migraines.
   28         (b)In conducting the study, the department shall:
   29         1.Evaluate and determine whether alternative therapies are
   30  effective in treating the mental health and other medical
   31  conditions listed in paragraph (a).
   32         2.Compare the efficacy of using alternative therapies with
   33  the efficacy of treatments currently used for the mental health
   34  and other medical conditions listed in paragraph (a).
   35         (2)By September 1, 2023, the department shall submit a
   36  report of its findings and recommendations for future
   37  legislative action and implementation to the Governor, the
   38  President of the Senate, and the Speaker of the House of
   39  Representatives.
   40         (3)This section expires September 30, 2023.
   41         Section 2. This act shall take effect July 1, 2022.
