Senator Hutson moved the following:
1 Senate Amendment

3 Delete lines 124 - 190
4 and insert:
5 the 2022-2023 academic year and thereafter, 100 hours of paid
6 work approved by the district school board, the administrators
7 of a nonpublic school, or the Department of Education for home
8 education program students. The student may must identify a
9 social or civic issue or a professional area that interests him
10 or her and, develop a plan for his or her personal involvement
11 in addressing the issue or learning about the area. The student
12 must, and, through papers or other presentations, evaluate and
13 reflect upon his or her volunteer service or paid work
14 experience. Except for credit earned through service-learning
15 courses adopted pursuant to s. 1003.497, the student may not
16 receive remuneration or academic credit for volunteer service
17 work performed. Such volunteer service or paid work may include,
18 but is not limited to, a business or governmental internship,
19 work for a nonprofit community service organization, or
20 activities on behalf of a candidate for public office. The hours
21 of volunteer service or paid work must be documented in writing,
22 and the document must be signed by the student, the student’s
23 parent or guardian, and a representative of the organization for
24 which the student performed the volunteer service or paid work.
25 Section 3. Paragraph (e) of subsection (1) and subsection
26 (2) of section 1009.536, Florida Statutes, are amended to read:
27 1009.536 Florida Gold Seal Vocational Scholars and Florida
28 Gold Seal CAPE Scholars awards.—The Florida Gold Seal Vocational
29 Scholars award and the Florida Gold Seal CAPE Scholars award are
30 created within the Florida Bright Futures Scholarship Program to
31 recognize and reward academic achievement and career preparation
32 by high school students who wish to continue their education.
33 (1) A student is eligible for a Florida Gold Seal
34 Vocational Scholars award if he or she meets the general
35 eligibility requirements for the Florida Bright Futures
36 Scholarship Program and:
37 (e) Beginning with high school students graduating in the
38 2011-2012 academic year and thereafter, Completes at least 30
39 hours of volunteer service or, beginning with high school
40 students graduating in the 2022-2023 academic year and
41 thereafter, 100 hours of paid work, approved by the district
42 school board, the administrators of a nonpublic school, or the
43 Department of Education for home education program students. The
44 student may must identify a social or civic issue or a

61 (2) A high school student graduating in the 2016-2017
62 academic year and thereafter is eligible for a Florida Gold Seal
63 CAPE Scholars award if he or she meets the general eligibility
64 requirements for the Florida Bright Futures Scholarship Program,
65 and the student:
66 (a) Earns a minimum of 5 postsecondary credit hours through
67 CAPE industry certifications approved pursuant to s. 1008.44
68 which articulate for college credit; and
69 (b) Completes at least 30 hours of volunteer service or,
70 beginning with a high school student graduating in the 2022-2023
71 academic year and thereafter, 100 hours of paid work, approved
72 by the
