    1                       Senate Joint Resolution                     
    2         A joint resolution proposing the repeal of Section 27
    3         of Article I of the State Constitution relating to the
    4         definition of marriage.
    5          
    6  Be It Resolved by the Legislature of the State of Florida:
    7  
    8         That the repeal of Section 27 of Article I of the State
    9  Constitution is agreed to and shall be submitted to the electors
   10  of this state for approval or rejection at the next general
   11  election or at an earlier special election specifically
   12  authorized by law for that purpose.
   13         BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the following statement be
   14  placed on the ballot:
   15                      CONSTITUTIONAL AMENDMENT                     
   16                        ARTICLE I, SECTION 27                      
   17         REPEALING THE DEFINITION OF MARRIAGE.—Proposing an
   18  amendment to the State Constitution to remove a provision that
   19  is currently unenforced and is preempted by federal
   20  constitutional law and that defines marriage as the legal union
   21  of only one man and one woman as husband and wife and further
   22  restricts other legal unions from being treated as valid or
   23  recognized marriages, or the substantial equivalent thereof, in
   24  Florida.
