Florida Senate - 2023 SB 1110 By Senator Ingoglia 11-00971C-23 20231110__ 1 A bill to be entitled 2 An act relating to term limits; creating s. 124.012, 3 F.S.; establishing term limits for county 4 commissioners; amending s. 1001.35, F.S.; revising 5 term limits for district school board members; 6 providing an effective date. 7 8 Be It Enacted by the Legislature of the State of Florida: 9 10 Section 1. Section 124.012, Florida Statutes, is created to 11 read: 12 124.012 Term limits of county commissioners.— 13 (1) A person may not appear on the ballot for reelection to 14 the office of county commissioner if, by the end of his or her 15 current term of office, the person will have served, or but for 16 resignation would have served, in that office for 8 consecutive 17 years. Service of a term of office which commenced before 18 November 8, 2022, will not be counted toward the limitation 19 imposed by this section. 20 (2) This section supersedes any term limits imposed by a 21 county charter. 22 Section 2. Section 1001.35, Florida Statutes, is amended to 23 read: 24 1001.35 Term of office.—District school board members shall 25 be elected at the general election in November for terms of 4 26 years, except that a person may not appear on the ballot for 27 reelection to the office of school board member if, by the end 28 of his or her current term of office, the person will have 29 served, or but for resignation would have served, in that office 30 for 812consecutive years. Service of a term of office which 31 commenced before November 8, 2022, will not be counted toward 32 the limitation imposed by this section. 33 Section 3. This act shall take effect July 1, 2023.
