House Comm: UNFAV . 04/25/2023 . . . . ————————————————————————————————————————————————————————————————— ————————————————————————————————————————————————————————————————— The Committee on Fiscal Policy (Berman) recommended the following: 1 Senate Amendment to Amendment (383522) (with title 2 amendment) 3 4 Delete lines 90 - 96 5 and insert: 6 voluntary inquiry on its patient admission or registration forms 7 for the patient or the patient’s representative to state or 8 indicate whether the patient is a United States citizen or 9 whether the patient is lawfully present in the United States or 10 is not lawfully present in the United States. The patient or the 11 patient’s representative must be informed that answering this 12 question is optional, both in writing accompanying the question 13 on the registration form and verbally by hospital staff in a 14 language understood by the patient or the patient’s 15 representative. The voluntary inquiry must be followed by both 16 written and verbal statements in a language understood by the 17 patient or the patient’s representative that the response will 18 not affect the patient’s care or result in a report of the 19 patient’s immigration status to immigration authorities. 20 Hospital staff need not inquire into a patient’s immigration 21 status if doing so would be contrary to ethics guidelines set 22 forth by the American Medical Association. 23 24 ================= T I T L E A M E N D M E N T ================ 25 And the title is amended as follows: 26 Delete line 1099 27 and insert: 28 include a voluntary inquiry into the patient’s 29 immigration status on
