    1                        A bill to be entitled                      
    2         An act relating to time limitations for prosecution of
    3         certain sexual offenses; amending s. 775.15, F.S.;
    4         revising the time periods for prosecution of specified
    5         sexual offenses committed on certain victims in
    6         certain circumstances; providing applicability;
    7         providing an effective date.
    8          
    9  Be It Enacted by the Legislature of the State of Florida:
   10  
   11         Section 1. Subsection (14) of section 775.15, Florida
   12  Statutes, is amended to read:
   13         775.15 Time limitations; general time limitations;
   14  exceptions.—
   15         (14)(a) A prosecution for a first or second degree felony
   16  violation of s. 794.011, if the victim is 16 years of age or
   17  older at the time of the offense and the offense is reported to
   18  a law enforcement agency or a medical professional licensed
   19  under chapter 458, chapter 464, chapter 466, chapter 490, or
   20  chapter 491 within 21 days 72 hours after commission of the
   21  offense, may be commenced at any time.
   22         (b) Except as provided in paragraph (a), or paragraph (c),
   23  paragraph (13)(b), or subsection (20), a prosecution for a first
   24  or second degree felony violation of s. 794.011, if the victim
   25  is 16 years of age or older at the time of the offense, must be
   26  commenced within 8 years after the violation is committed. This
   27  paragraph applies to any such offense except an offense the
   28  prosecution of which would have been barred by subsection (2) on
   29  or before July 1, 2015.
   30         (c)A prosecution for a first or second degree felony
   31  violation of s. 794.011, if the victim is 18 years of age or
   32  older at the time of the offense, must be commenced within 15
   33  years after the violation is committed. This paragraph applies
   34  to an offense that is committed on or after July 1, 2023.
   35         Section 2. The amendments to s. 775.15(14)(a), Florida
   36  Statutes, made by this act apply to any such offense except an
   37  offense the prosecution of which would have been barred by s.
   38  775.15(2), Florida Statutes, on or before July 1, 2023.
   39         Section 3. This act shall take effect July 1, 2023.
