The Committee on Health Policy (Avila) recommended the
following:
1 Senate Amendment

3 Delete lines 24 - 81
4 and insert:
5 b. For an applicant who matriculated graduated on or before
6 December 31, 2020, has received a bachelor’s or master’s degree
7 from an approved program.
8 c. For an applicant who graduated before July 1, 1994, has
9 graduated from an approved program of instruction in primary
10 health care or surgery.
11 d. For an applicant who graduated before July 1, 1983, has
12 received a certification as a physician assistant from the
13 boards.
14 e. The board may also grant a license to an applicant who
15 does not meet the educational requirement specified in this
16 subparagraph but who has passed the Physician Assistant National
17 Certifying Examination administered by the National Commission
18 on Certification of Physician Assistants before 1986.
19 3. Has obtained a passing score as established by the
20 National Commission on Certification of Physician Assistants or
21 its equivalent or successor organization and has been nationally
22 certified. If an applicant does not hold a current certificate
23 issued by the National Commission on Certification of Physician
24 Assistants or its equivalent or successor organization and has
25 not actively practiced as a physician assistant within the
26 immediately preceding 4 years, the applicant must retake and
27 successfully complete the entry-level examination of the
28 National Commission on Certification of Physician Assistants or
29 its equivalent or successor organization to be eligible for
30 licensure.
31 4. Has completed the application form and remitted an
32 application fee not to exceed $300 as set by the boards. An
33 application for licensure as a physician assistant must include:
34 a. A diploma from an approved program.
35 b. Acknowledgment of any prior felony convictions.
36 c. Acknowledgment of any previous revocation or denial of
37 licensure or certification in any state.
38 Section 2. Paragraph (a) of subsection (6) of section
39 459.022, Florida Statutes, is amended to read:
40 459.022 Physician assistants.—
41 (6) PHYSICIAN ASSISTANT LICENSURE.—
42 (a) Any person desiring to be licensed as a physician
43 assistant must apply to the department. The department shall
44 issue a license to any person certified by the council as having
45 met all of the following requirements:
46 1. Is at least 18 years of age.
47 2. Has completed graduated from an approved program.
48 a. For an applicant who matriculated graduated after
49 December 31, 2020, has received a master’s degree in accordance
50 with the Accreditation Review Commission on Education for the
51 Physician Assistant or, before 2001, its equivalent or
52 predecessor organization.
53 b. For an applicant who matriculated graduated on or before
54 December 31, 2020, has received a bachelor’s or master’s degree
55 from an approved program.
56 c. For an applicant who graduated before July 1, 1994, has
57 graduated from an approved program of instruction in primary
58 health care or surgery.
59 d. For an applicant who graduated before July 1, 1983, has
60 received a certification as a physician assistant from the
61 boards.
