    2         An act relating to college applications; creating s.
    3         1004.031, F.S.; defining terms; prohibiting a Florida
    4         College System institution or a state university from
    5         inquiring about a prospective student’s race or
    6         ethnicity in a college application; providing an
    7         effective date.

    9  Be It Enacted by the Legislature of the State of Florida:
   10  
   11         Section 1. Section 1004.031, Florida Statutes, is created
   12  to read:
   13         1004.031 College application requirements.—
   14         (1) Definitions.—As used in this section, the term:
   15         (a) “College application” means the process by which a
   16  prospective student gains admission to an institution of higher
   17  education.
   18         (b) “Institution of higher education” means a Florida
   19  College System institution or a state university.
   20         (2) An institution of higher education may not inquire
   21  about a prospective student’s race or ethnicity in his or her
   22  college application.
   23         Section 2. This act shall take effect July 1, 2024.
