1 A bill to be entitled
2 An act relating to high school graduation
3 requirements; amending s. 1003.4282, F.S.; authorizing
4 students earning a standard high school diploma
5 through the Career and Technical Education graduation
6 pathway option to meet a certain assessment
7 requirement by earning a specified score on the
8 Mathematics Postsecondary Education Readiness Test;
9 providing an effective date.

11 Be It Enacted by the Legislature of the State of Florida:

13 Section 1. Subsection (9) of section 1003.4282, Florida
14 Statutes, is amended to read:
15 1003.4282 Requirements for a standard high school diploma.—
16 (9) CAREER AND TECHNICAL EDUCATION GRADUATION PATHWAY
17 OPTION.—Beginning with the 2019-2020 school year, A student is
18 eligible to complete an alternative pathway to earning a
19 standard high school diploma through the Career and Technical
20 Education (CTE) pathway option. Receipt of a standard high
21 school diploma awarded through the CTE pathway option requires
22 the student’s successful completion of at least 18 credits. A
23 student completing the CTE pathway option must earn at least a
24 cumulative grade point average (GPA) of 2.0 on a 4.0 scale.
25 (a) In order for a student to satisfy the requirements of
26 the CTE pathway option, he or she must meet the GPA requirement
27 and:
28 1. Meet the requirements in paragraphs (3)(a)-(d) and,
29 additionally, for students entering grade 9 in the 2023-2024
30 school year and thereafter, paragraph (3)(h). For purposes of
31 earning a standard high school diploma pursuant to this
32 subsection, a student may meet the Algebra 1 EOC assessment
33 requirement in paragraph (3)(b) by earning a 97 or higher on the
34 Mathematics Postsecondary Education Readiness Test (P.E.R.T.);
35 2. Complete two credits in career and technical education.
36 The courses must result in a program completion and an industry
37 certification; and
38 3.a. For a student who enters grade 9 before the 2023-2024
39 school year, complete two credits in electives or work-based
40 learning programs. A one-half credit in financial literacy may
41 be included in the two credits of electives; or
42 b. For a student who enters grade 9 in the 2023-2024 school
43 year and thereafter, complete one and one-half credits in
44 electives or work-based learning programs.
45 (b) Each district school board shall incorporate the CTE
46 pathway option to graduation in the student progression plan
47 required under s. 1008.25.
48 (c) Adjunct educators certified pursuant to s. 1012.57 may
49 teach courses in the CTE pathway option.
50 Section 2. This act shall take effect July 1, 2024.
