Florida Senate - 2024 SB 200 By Senator Gruters 22-00043-24 2024200__ 1 A bill to be entitled 2 An act relating to educator certification; amending s. 3 1012.56, F.S.; requiring the Department of Education 4 to develop and establish a method for a person holding 5 a professional educator certificate to place a 6 professional certificate in inactive status while the 7 person teaches at a nonaccredited school; providing an 8 effective date. 9 10 Be It Enacted by the Legislature of the State of Florida: 11 12 Section 1. Paragraph (g) is added to subsection (7) of 13 section 1012.56, Florida Statutes, to read: 14 1012.56 Educator certification requirements.— 15 (7) TYPES AND TERMS OF CERTIFICATION.— 16 (g) The department shall develop and establish a method for 17 a professional certificateholder described in paragraph (a) to 18 place his or her professional certificate in inactive status 19 while he or she is teaching at a nonaccredited school. Time 20 accrued while the professional certificate is inactive does not 21 contribute toward the certificate’s expiration. 22 23 At least 1 year before an individual’s temporary certificate is 24 set to expire, the department shall electronically notify the 25 individual of the date on which his or her certificate will 26 expire and provide a list of each method by which the 27 qualifications for a professional certificate can be completed. 28 Section 2. This act shall take effect July 1, 2024.
