    1                       Senate Joint Resolution                     
    2         A joint resolution proposing the creation of Section
    3         33 of Article X of the State Constitution to prohibit
    4         the state, a county, a municipality, or any other
    5         political subdivision from paying reparations to
    6         certain individuals.

    8  Be It Resolved by the Legislature of the State of Florida:
    9  
   10         That the following creation of Section 33 of Article X of
   11  the State Constitution is agreed to and shall be submitted to
   12  the electors of this state for approval or rejection at the next
   13  general election or at an earlier special election specifically
   14  authorized by law for that purpose:
   15                              ARTICLE X                            
   16                            MISCELLANEOUS                          
   17         SECTION 33. Payment of reparations prohibited.—The state, a
   18  county, a municipality, or any other political subdivision may
   19  not pay compensation in the form of reparations to an individual
   20  who is a descendant of an enslaved individual who lived in the
   21  United States before December 6, 1865.
   22         BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the following statement be
   23  placed on the ballot:
   24                      CONSTITUTIONAL AMENDMENT                     
   25                        ARTICLE X, SECTION 33                      
   26         PAYMENT OF REPARATIONS PROHIBITED.—Proposing an amendment
   27  to the State Constitution to prohibit the state, a county, a
   28  municipality, and any other political subdivision from paying
   29  compensation in the form of reparations to an individual who is
   30  a descendant of an enslaved individual who lived in the United
   31  States before December 6, 1865.
