Section 267.0724, Florida Statutes, is created 7 to read: 8 267.0724 Florida African American Heritage Preservation 9 Network.—As authorized by and consistent with funding 10 appropriated in the General Appropriations Act, the Department 11 of State shall contract, in accordance with the duties of the 12 division under s. 267.071, with the Florida African American 13 Heritage Preservation Network, a nonprofit organization exempt 14 from taxation pursuant to s. 501(c)(3) of the Internal Revenue 15 Code, to preserve Florida black and African American history and 16 culture. The Florida African American Heritage Preservation 17 Network shall submit a list of member museums to the department, 18 and the department shall independently verify that such museums 19 are members of the Florida African American Heritage 20 Preservation Network. Functions to be provided by the Florida 21 African American Heritage Preservation Network under the 22 contract shall include, but are not limited to, all of the 23 following: 24 (1) Distribution of funding to support member museums and 25 their affiliates and institutions served, and the galleries and 26 archives of such museums, affiliates, and institutions. 27 (2) Support to member museums and their affiliates in the 28 areas of technology, equipment acquisition, content and exhibit 29 development, fabrication, and installation, and preservation of 30 documents and artifacts. 31 (3) Provision of professional and resource development 32 services to member museums and their affiliates to enhance 33 visitation to and viewership of Florida black and African 34 American history museums, places, and spaces. Such professional 35 and resource development services shall include conferences, 36 workshops, and training and tourism and marketing expenditures. 37 38 Other expenses as determined by the Florida African American 39 Heritage Preservation Network and related to the network’s 40 mission are eligible for funding under the contract, including 41 intern expenses, expenses related to field training sessions and 42 virtual communication methods to maintain connectivity among the 43 museums, traveling exhibit expenses, and expenses for living 44 history presentations. 45 Section 2. This act shall take effect July 1, 2024. 46 47 ================= T I T L E A M E N D M E N T ================ 48 And the title is amended as follows: 49 Delete everything before the enacting clause 50 and insert: 51 A bill to be entitled 52 An act relating to the Florida African American 53 Heritage Preservation Network; creating s. 267.0724, 54 F.S.; requiring the Department of State to contract 55 with the Florida African American Heritage 56 Preservation Network for a specified purpose; 57 requiring the network to submit a list of member 58 museums to the department; requiring the department to 59 independently verify that such museums are members of 60 the network; specifying functions that must be 61 provided under the contract; providing that certain 62 expenses are eligible for funding under the contract; 63 providing an effective date.
