Florida Senate - 2024 CS for CS for SB 592 By the Committees on Fiscal Policy; and Governmental Oversight and Accountability; and Senator Burgess 594-03641-24 2024592c2 1 A bill to be entitled 2 An act relating to historical preservation programs; 3 creating s. 267.0724, F.S.; requiring the Department 4 of State to partner with the Florida African American 5 Heritage Preservation Network for a specified purpose; 6 specifying preservation efforts that may be undertaken 7 through the partnership; requiring the network to 8 submit a list of member museums to the department; 9 requiring the department to independently verify that 10 such museums are members of the network; requiring the 11 department and the network to determine other eligible 12 expenditures necessary to further the partnership’s 13 mission and goals; providing an effective date. 14 15 Be It Enacted by the Legislature of the State of Florida: 16 17 Section 1. Section 267.0724, Florida Statutes, is created 18 to read: 19 267.0724 Florida African American Heritage Preservation 20 Network.—Subject to the appropriation of funds by the 21 Legislature, the Department of State shall, in accordance with 22 s. 267.071, partner with the Florida African American Heritage 23 Preservation Network to preserve the history, culture, and 24 contributions of Florida’s black and African-American residents. 25 Such preservation efforts must include, but are not limited to, 26 providing funding to support member museums and affiliates and 27 institutions served; supporting galleries and archives; 28 providing funding in the areas of technology, equipment 29 acquisition, content and exhibit development, fabrication, and 30 installation; preserving documents and artifacts; providing 31 professional and resource development services, including 32 conducting conferences and workshops; and providing funding for 33 training and technical assistance. The Florida African American 34 Heritage Preservation Network shall submit a list of member 35 museums to the department, and the department shall 36 independently verify that such museums are members of the 37 Florida African American Heritage Preservation Network. The 38 department and the Florida African American Heritage 39 Preservation Network shall determine other eligible expenditures 40 related to the partnership’s stated mission and goals, which may 41 include providing funding for an internship, field training 42 sessions, virtual communication methods to maintain connectivity 43 among the museums, traveling exhibits, and living history 44 presentations. 45 Section 2. This act shall take effect July 1, 2024.
