Florida Senate - 2024 CS for SB 830 By the Committee on Health Policy; and Senator Collins 588-02645-24 2024830c1 1 A bill to be entitled 2 An act relating to youth athletic activities; amending 3 s. 1012.55, F.S.; revising the requirements for 4 certain athletic coaches to include certification in 5 cardiopulmonary resuscitation, first aid, and the use 6 of an automatic external defibrillator; providing 7 requirements for such certification; providing an 8 effective date. 9 10 Be It Enacted by the Legislature of the State of Florida: 11 12 Section 1. Paragraph (a) of subsection (2) of section 13 1012.55, Florida Statutes, is amended to read: 14 1012.55 Positions for which certificates required.— 15 (2)(a)1. Each person who is employed and renders service as 16 an athletic coach in any public school in any district of this 17 state shall: 18 a. Hold a valid temporary or professional certificate or an 19 athletic coaching certificate. The athletic coaching certificate 20 may be used for either part-time or full-time positions. 21 b. Hold and maintain a certification in cardiopulmonary 22 resuscitation, first aid, and the use of an automatic external 23 defibrillator. The certification must be consistent with 24 national evidence-based emergency cardiovascular care 25 guidelines. 26 2. The provisions of this subsection do not apply to any 27 athletic coach who voluntarily renders service and who is not 28 employed by any public school district of this state. 29 Section 2. This act shall take effect July 1, 2024.
