House Comm: WD . 01/16/2024 . . . . ————————————————————————————————————————————————————————————————— ————————————————————————————————————————————————————————————————— The Committee on Governmental Oversight and Accountability (Polsky) recommended the following: 1 Senate Amendment (with title amendment) 2 3 Delete everything after the enacting clause 4 and insert: 5 Section 1. (1) The Fish and Wildlife Conservation 6 Commission shall consider alternatives to the official state 7 bird by collecting submissions from: 8 (a) Commissioners, who may nominate alternatives to the 9 official state bird; and 10 (b) Residents of this state. 11 (2) No later than July 1, 2024, the commission shall 12 implement a portal on its publicly available website to collect 13 submissions from the residents of this state. 14 (3) No later than January 1, 2025, the Fish and Wildlife 15 Conservation Commission shall submit a report to the President 16 of the Senate and the Speaker of the House of Representatives 17 which includes a recommendation on whether to retain the current 18 official state bird or adopt a new official state bird. 19 (4) During the 2025 Regular Session, the Legislature shall 20 consider legislation to adopt a new official state bird if the 21 Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission recommends such a 22 change. 23 Section 2. This act shall take effect upon becoming a law. 24 25 ================= T I T L E A M E N D M E N T ================ 26 And the title is amended as follows: 27 Delete everything before the enacting clause 28 and insert: 29 A bill to be entitled 30 An act relating to the official state bird; requiring 31 the Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission to 32 consider alternatives to the official state bird by 33 collecting submissions from specified persons; 34 requiring the commission to implement, by a specified 35 date, an online portal on its website to receive 36 submissions from certain persons; requiring the 37 commission to provide a specified report to the 38 Legislature by a specified date; requiring the 39 Legislature to consider, during a specified 40 legislative session, certain legislation under 41 specified conditions; providing an effective date.
