    1                          Senate Resolution                        
    2         A resolution to designate May as National Hypertension
    3         Month in Florida to promote greater awareness, public
    4         education, and expanded efforts to prevent, detect,
    5         and manage hypertension, and to advocate for greater
    6         patient access to innovative treatment therapies.

    8         WHEREAS, hypertension, also known as high blood pressure,
    9  affects nearly half of all adults in the United States and is a
   10  leading risk factor for various cardiovascular diseases, and
   11         WHEREAS, hypertension often goes undetected and untreated,
   12  leading to severe health complications, including heart disease,
   13  stroke, and kidney failure, and it contributes to nearly 700,000
   14  deaths per year in the United States, and
   15         WHEREAS, only about one in four adults in the United States
   16  has his or her hypertension under control, and
   17         WHEREAS, health care costs in the United States associated
   18  with hypertension account for about $131 billion per year, while
   19  individuals with hypertension are estimated to face nearly
   20  $2,000 higher annual health care expenditures compared to those
   21  without hypertension, and
   22         WHEREAS, recent advancements in medical technology have led
   23  to the United States Food and Drug Administration approving
   24  renal denervation therapies as a promising treatment for
   25  resistant hypertension, offering hope to patients who do not
   26  respond adequately to conventional treatments, and
   27         WHEREAS, clinical and real-world results being achieved
   28  through renal denervation therapies prompted the American Heart
   29  Association to state recently that “renal denervation presents a
   30  novel treatment strategy for patients with uncontrolled blood
   31  pressure,” and
   32         WHEREAS, access to innovative treatments is essential for
   33  improving public health and reducing the burden of hypertension
   34  related medical complications, and
   35         WHEREAS, the month of May is recognized as National
   36  Hypertension Month to raise awareness about the importance of
   37  preventing, detecting, and managing hypertension, NOW,
   38  THEREFORE,

   40  Be It Resolved by the Senate of the State of Florida:
   41  
   42         That the Senate designates May as National Hypertension
   43  Month in Florida to promote greater awareness, public education,
   44  and expanded efforts to prevent, detect, and manage
   45  hypertension, and to advocate for greater patient access to
   46  innovative treatment therapies.
