Florida Senate - 2025 (NP) SR 1884 By Senator Truenow 13-03269-25 20251884__ 1 Senate Resolution 2 A resolution recognizing the 100th anniversary of the 3 Town of Windermere and its commitment to building and 4 maintaining a strong community that reflects its 5 residents, and recognizing February 2, 2025, as “Town 6 of Windermere Day” in Florida. 7 8 WHEREAS, Dr. Stanley Scott, an Englishman, settled on 160 9 acres in Central Florida in 1888, calling his home “Windermere,” 10 and 11 WHEREAS, in 1911, J.C. “Cal” Palmer and J. Howard Johnson 12 purchased Windermere and the surrounding lands and, through hard 13 work and dedication, developed a community that welcomed new 14 residents, and 15 WHEREAS, the Town of Windermere was incorporated in 1925 by 16 Palmer, Johnson, and Howard Lyon, each of whom would serve as 17 mayor of the town in the years that followed, and 18 WHEREAS, in 1930, Windermere had a population of 153, and 19 by 1960 it had increased to 596 residents, and 20 WHEREAS, today, 100 years after incorporation, 3,132 people 21 reside in the lakefront community of the Town of Windermere 22 under the leadership of Mayor Jim O’Brien and Council Members 23 Loren “Andy” Williams, Mandy David, Tony Davit, Tom Stroup, and 24 Brandi Haines, and 25 WHEREAS, the Town of Windermere is a testament to what an 26 involved citizenry can accomplish when equipped with a strong 27 sense of community pride, and its residents continue to 28 demonstrate a willingness to work hard to build a safe, healthy, 29 and vibrant community, and 30 WHEREAS, the Town of Windermere has recognized that a town 31 that takes care of its trees takes care of its people by 32 providing places to play and to appreciate natural beauty, and 33 it has been designated as a Tree City USA by the Arbor Day 34 Foundation, and 35 WHEREAS, the Butler Chain of Lakes in Windermere was the 36 first lake system in Florida to be designated as an Outstanding 37 Florida Water by the Florida Department of Environmental 38 Protection, a designation it earned in 1985 thanks to the 39 quality of its water and wildlife habitat, and 40 WHEREAS, the Town of Windermere marks its 100th anniversary 41 by celebrating all citizens, volunteers, businesses, community 42 organizations, and dedicated town staff and council members, 43 past and present, who have worked so hard to enhance the 44 community of Windermere, NOW, THEREFORE, 45 46 Be It Resolved by the Senate of the State of Florida: 47 48 That the Senate reaffirms the importance of the Town of 49 Windermere on the occasion of its 100th anniversary and 50 recognizes February 2, 2025, as “Town of Windermere Day” in 51 Florida.
