    1                          Senate Resolution                        
    2         A resolution recognizing the accomplishments and
    3         contributions to this state and to the nation of
    4         United States Army Command Sergeant Major Shane W.
    5         Shorter, Command Senior Enlisted Leader of the United
    6         States Special Operations Command at MacDill Air Force
    7         Base in Tampa.
    8  
    9         WHEREAS, Command Sergeant Major Shane W. Shorter currently
   10  serves as Command Senior Enlisted Leader of the United States
   11  Special Operations Command (USSOCOM) at MacDill Air Force Base
   12  in Tampa, and
   13         WHEREAS, Command Sergeant Major Shorter enlisted in the
   14  United States Army in 1988 and attended Infantry Basic Training
   15  and Advanced Individual Training at Fort Benning, Georgia, and
   16         WHEREAS, Command Sergeant Major Shorter volunteered for
   17  Special Forces training and graduated from the Special Forces
   18  Qualification Course in 1992, and
   19         WHEREAS, Command Sergeant Major Shorter was subsequently
   20  assigned to 3rd Battalion, 1st Special Forces Group (A) at Fort
   21  Lewis, Washington, and over his ensuing 23 years of service, has
   22  held the positions of Junior Medical NCO, Senior Medical NCO,
   23  Team Sergeant, and HSC First Sergeant, and
   24         WHEREAS, Command Sergeant Major Shorter’s nominative
   25  positions include the Command Senior Enlisted Leader of Special
   26  Operations Command Pacific, United States Indo-Pacific Command,
   27  and Joint Special Operations University, and
   28         WHEREAS, Command Sergeant Major Shorter is a graduate of
   29  the Special Forces Qualification Course, the Special Forces
   30  Operations and Intelligence Course, the Static Line Jumpmaster
   31  Course, the Dive Medical Technician’s Course, and the Military
   32  Free Fall Parachutist Course, and
   33         WHEREAS, Command Sergeant Major Shorter’s awards and
   34  decorations include the Defense Superior Service Medal, the
   35  Meritorious Service Medal, the Army Commendation Medal with “V”
   36  device, and the Army Achievement Medal, and he has been awarded
   37  the Special Forces Tab, the Combat Infantryman’s Badge, the
   38  Expert Infantryman’s Badge, the Expert Field Medic Badge, the
   39  Master Parachutist Badge, the Military Free Fall Parachutist
   40  Badge, and the Saint Phillip of Neri Award (Bronze Order), and
   41         WHEREAS, since taking up his assignment at USSOCOM in
   42  August 2022, Command Sergeant Major Shorter has worked with this
   43  state’s federally elected officials to assist in recovery from
   44  Hurricanes Helene and Milton in 2024, NOW, THEREFORE,

   46  Be It Resolved by the Senate of the State of Florida:
   47  
   48         That the accomplishments and contributions to this state
   49  and to the nation of United States Army Command Sergeant Major
   50  Shane W. Shorter, Command Senior Enlisted Leader of the United
   51  States Special Operations Command at MacDill Air Force Base in
   52  Tampa, are recognized and honored.
   53         BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that a copy of this resolution, with
   54  the Seal of the Senate affixed, be presented to Command Sergeant
   55  Major Shane W. Shorter as a tangible token of the sentiments of
   56  the Florida Senate.
