1 A bill to be entitled
2 An act relating to special observances; creating s.
3 683.3343, F.S.; designating August 21 of each year as
4 “Fentanyl Awareness and Education Day”; encouraging
5 specified agencies, local governments, and public
6 schools to sponsor events to promote awareness of the
7 dangers of fentanyl and potential overdoses, including
8 education on specified topics; providing an effective
9 date.

11 Be It Enacted by the Legislature of the State of Florida:

13 Section 1. Section 683.3343, Florida Statutes, is created
14 to read:
15 683.3343 Fentanyl Awareness and Education Day.—
16 (1) The Legislature designates August 21 of each year as
17 “Fentanyl Awareness and Education Day” to increase awareness of
18 the dangers of fentanyl and potential overdoses.
19 (2) The Department of Health, the Department of Children
20 and Families, local governments, public schools, and other
21 agencies are encouraged to sponsor events to promote awareness
22 of the dangers of fentanyl and potential overdoses, including,
23 but, not limited to, education on the prevention of fentanyl
24 abuse and addiction; the availability of local school and
25 community resources for drug prevention and any processes
26 involved in accessing those resources; and health issues,
27 including information about substance use and abuse,
28 specifically youth substance use and abuse.
29 Section 2. This act shall take effect July 1, 2025.
