    1                        A bill to be entitled                      
    2         An act relating to carrying concealed weapons and
    3         firearms in courthouses; amending s. 790.06, F.S.;
    4         revising the list of places into which a person may
    5         not carry a handgun or a concealed weapon or concealed
    6         firearm to allow judges and magistrates to carry
    7         concealed weapons and concealed firearms into any
    8         courthouse in the circuit in which they serve in such
    9         capacity; providing an effective date.
   10          
   11  Be It Enacted by the Legislature of the State of Florida:
   12  
   13         Section 1. Paragraph (a) of subsection (12) of section
   14  790.06, Florida Statutes, is amended to read:
   15         790.06 License to carry concealed weapon or concealed
   16  firearm.—
   17         (12)(a) A license issued under this section does not
   18  authorize any person to openly carry a handgun or carry a
   19  concealed weapon or concealed firearm into:
   20         1. Any place of nuisance as defined in s. 823.05;
   21         2. Any police, sheriff, or highway patrol station;
   22         3. Any detention facility, prison, or jail;
   23         4. Any courthouse, except that this section does not
   24  preclude a judge or magistrate from carrying a concealed weapon
   25  or concealed firearm into any courthouse in the circuit in which
   26  he or she serves in such capacity;
   27         5. Any courtroom, except that nothing in this section does
   28  not preclude precludes a judge from carrying a concealed weapon
   29  or concealed firearm or determining who will carry a concealed
   30  weapon or concealed firearm in his or her courtroom;
   31         6. Any polling place;
   32         7. Any meeting of the governing body of a county, public
   33  school district, municipality, or special district;
   34         8. Any meeting of the Legislature or a committee thereof;
   35         9. Any school, college, or professional athletic event not
   36  related to firearms;
   37         10. Any elementary or secondary school facility or
   38  administration building;
   39         11. Any career center;
   40         12. Any portion of an establishment licensed to dispense
   41  alcoholic beverages for consumption on the premises, which
   42  portion of the establishment is primarily devoted to such
   43  purpose;
   44         13. Any college or university facility unless the licensee
   45  is a registered student, employee, or faculty member of such
   46  college or university and the weapon is a stun gun or nonlethal
   47  electric weapon or device designed solely for defensive purposes
   48  and the weapon does not fire a dart or projectile;
   49         14. The inside of the passenger terminal and sterile area
   50  of any airport, provided that no person shall be prohibited from
   51  carrying any legal firearm into the terminal, which firearm is
   52  encased for shipment for purposes of checking such firearm as
   53  baggage to be lawfully transported on any aircraft; or
   54         15. Any place where the carrying of firearms is prohibited
   55  by federal law.
   56         Section 2. This act shall take effect July 1, 2025.
