Florida Senate - 2025 SB 874 By Senator Martin 33-01460-25 2025874__ 1 A bill to be entitled 2 An act relating to gift certificate forgery; amending 3 s. 831.01, F.S.; providing criminal penalties for 4 persons who falsely make, alter, forge, or counterfeit 5 gift certificates with the intent to injure or defraud 6 a person; providing an effective date. 7 8 Be It Enacted by the Legislature of the State of Florida: 9 10 Section 1. Section 831.01, Florida Statutes, is amended to 11 read: 12 831.01 Forgery.—Whoever falsely makes, alters, forges or 13 counterfeits a public record, or a certificate, return or 14 attestation of any clerk or register of a court, public 15 register, notary public, town clerk or any public officer, in 16 relation to a matter wherein such certificate, return or 17 attestation may be received as a legal proof; or a charter, 18 deed, will, testament, bond, or writing obligatory, letter of 19 attorney, policy of insurance, bill of lading, bill of exchange 20 or promissory note, or an order, acquittance, or discharge for 21 money or other property, or an acceptance of a bill of exchange 22 or promissory note for the payment of money, or any receipt for 23 money, goods, or other property,orany passage ticket, pass, or 24 other evidence of transportation issued by a common carrier, or 25 a gift certificate as defined in s. 501.95 with intent to injure 26 or defraud any person, commitsshall be guilty ofa felony of 27 the third degree, punishable as provided in s. 775.082, s. 28 775.083, or s. 775.084. 29 Section 2. This act shall take effect October 1, 2025.
