House Comm: RCS . 03/19/2025 . . . . ————————————————————————————————————————————————————————————————— ————————————————————————————————————————————————————————————————— The Committee on Health Policy (Bernard) recommended the following: 1 Senate Amendment (with title amendment) 2 3 Delete everything after the enacting clause 4 and insert: 5 Section 1. Section 381.992, Florida Statutes, is created to 6 read: 7 381.992 Type 1 diabetes early detection program.— 8 (1) The Department of Health, in collaboration with school 9 districts throughout the state, shall develop informational 10 materials for the early detection of Type 1 diabetes for parents 11 and guardians of students. The informational materials shall be 12 made available to each school district, school board, and 13 charter school through the department’s website. 14 (2) Within 90 days after July 1, 2025, the department shall 15 develop the materials related to the early detection of Type 1 16 diabetes and post the information on its website. The department 17 shall develop a standardized methodology for each school 18 district, school board, and charter school for the notification 19 of the parents or guardians of public school voluntary 20 prekindergarten, kindergarten, and first-grade students, by 21 September 30, 2025, and annually thereafter, of the availability 22 of the Type 1 diabetes early detection materials. 23 (3) Information provided to parents and guardians shall 24 include, but not be limited to, all of the following: 25 (a) A description of Type 1 diabetes. 26 (b) A description of the risk factors and warning signs 27 associated with Type 1 diabetes. 28 (c) A description of the process for screening students for 29 early detection of Type 1 diabetes using a blood autoantibody 30 test. 31 (d) A recommendation for further evaluation for students 32 displaying warning signs associated with Type 1 diabetes or 33 positive early detection screening results. 34 Section 2. This act shall take effect July 1, 2025. 35 36 ================= T I T L E A M E N D M E N T ================ 37 And the title is amended as follows: 38 Delete everything before the enacting clause 39 and insert: 40 A bill to be entitled 41 An act relating to a Type 1 diabetes early detection 42 program; creating s. 381.992, F.S.; requiring the 43 Department of Health, in collaboration with school 44 districts throughout the state, to develop 45 informational materials for the early detection of 46 Type 1 diabetes for parents and guardians of certain 47 students; providing requirements for such 48 informational materials; providing an effective date.
